Favorite Fandom Accessories I Own

This week’s edition of 5 Fandom Friday celebrates Fandom Accessories. Accessories are the little things in our life that make it easy to incorporate our love of our fandoms fully into our world. Every where you look – in your kitchen, on your desk, in your jewelry box – the joy is everywhere! I had a hard time choosing just 5 (well, I picked 6 actually) but these are the 5 accessories I chose!

1. Tina Ring from Nerd Burger

Cazz of Nerd Burger is just one of the very best – she’s an awesome girl from Australia who makes fantastic geeky jewelry! She was kind enough to send me a Tina ring, which of course, is awesome. Bob’s Burgers is one of my all-time favorite cartoons, and Mark and I even got tickets to go see Bob’s Burgers live in March! Thanks Cazz <3

2. Barbie Shoe Necklace

barbie-shoes-necklace
I adore this Barbie Shoe necklace from Pixier and Pixier! It’s so fun, whimsical, and just a little creepy! I love the colors (of course), and the fact that it’s Barbie shoes. Weird and wonderful. Something Luna Lovegood would wear, for sure.

3. Wonder Woman Converse

wonder-woman-converse
I am so glad my friend @thedesignergeek suggested that I get these amazing Wonder Woman converse, because I LOVE them – they’re a perfect compliment and geek chic accessory to so many outfits. I first wore them to the Geekie Awards when the IGGPPC was up for a Geekie! They’re comfy and the artwork on them is just gorgeous. Wonder Woman is such a badass!

4. Lilac Wand from Gipson Wands

I’m a Potterhead and magic lover through and through! Scott of Gipson Wands designs carefully crafted magical wands, complete with unicorn hair and phoenix feathers. (alight, maybe not those!) I have a wand in Lilac wood. A favorite of the forest nymphs, Lilac is sacred to the Greek Twins Gemini. It promotes love and romance <3 <3 <3 Swish, and flick!

5. Monsters Inc Disney Parks Official Mug

monsters-inc-mug
Disney Parks Authentic gear is the best! It always reminds me of my trips to Disney World, and of course, you are only supposed to be able to get it in the parks! I bought this Mike Wazowski mug when Mark and I went on our first vacation to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida! It’s one of my absolute favorite memories – Mark and I had SO much fun! I drink coffee out of this adorable Disney mug every day at work. Disnerds, unite!

*BONUS* 6. IGGPPC embroidered pin by Sarah Synapse

iggppc-pin
Of COURSE I love repping my Iggles! This fabulous hand embroidered pin by Sarah Synapse is just too cute! And it comes in a multitude of colors! You can get your own pin here!

Top 5 Cosplays on my Cosplay Bucket List

I’m getting the itch… to cosplay! So for 2014 and 2015 I am going to try to knock out as many of these as possible. The costumes for my chosen 5 are simple enough, so I can see this goal being completely attainable. Plus the world totally needs more cosplaying… and I need to do my part if we’re going to make the world a more colorful place <3

annie-league-of-legends

Annie from League of Legends

Annie is one I’ve dreamt of ever since Mark began playing League of Legends religiously. She’s adorable and evil, a combination that I’m a huge fan of. She has this epic bear named Tibbers that she can summon… he is her faithful bear slave and destroyer of worlds. Annie has a really cute purple dress, adorable bear backpack, random cat ears, and adorable 80’s leg warmers. In short, she’s a cute fireball of purpley goodness.

kiss-the-girl-ariel

Kiss the Girl Ariel from Disney’s The Little Mermaid

Ariel cosplays can be tricky, considering she’s a freaking fish. And I don’t see myself laying around a pool with my big green fin any time soon, so I’ve chosen to do “Kiss the girl” Ariel, or Kingdom dress Ariel. It’s recognizable enough, but I’ll actually get to use legs! The wig is key for this costume, for sure.

lydia-deetz

Lydia from Beetlejuice the cartoon

One of my absolutely favorite cartoons as a kid was Beetlejuice. Lydia wore a fantastic spiderweb poncho, pink and purple eyeshadow, and a crazy ponytail that just don’t quit. It not only seems extremely comfortable, but recognizable as well. My hope is that I could get a Beetlejuice to cosplay with me, but I think this one can be recognizable alone as well.

peter-pan

Disney’s Peter Pan

Peter Pan was a childhood idol of mine. He’s one of those androgynous cosplays that guys and girls can typically pull off. Peter is a young boy, and that makes girls the perfect choice to portray his youthful clean shaven look. We all know in the musical, he is usually played by a woman. And Peter represents a large part of my childhood and that notion of staying young forever. He’s adventurous, brave, charming and super cute! I gotta crow!

tina-belcher

Tina Belcher from Bob’s Burgers

BRB, writing erotic friend fiction. Tina Belcher was not my first choice for a Bob’s Burgers cosplay – it has always been Louise. But the more hilarious character development I see of Tina, the more I absolutely love her. She totally represents all of our awkward selves in our teen years, whether we like it or not. And again, it’s a simple costume that will be easy to put together. The key with this cosplay is that I believe it’s a must-do-as-a-group cosplay, which is why I am hoping me and my friends can do a Bob’s Burger group at New York Comic Con this year! So don’t be such a boob punch, and come hang out with me and Comic Con!

Valentine’s for myself

Valentine’s Day is one of those fickle holidays. It has a lot of commercialism associated with it, which I hate … but it’s a holiday where I would like to think for one day, we could all just send a little love to each other. Friends, family, boyfriends, wives – I think we can all spread the love on Valentine’s Day. And no, it does not have to be a gift giving holiday… but I do like gifts! Especially when I give them to myself. Forget the overpriced flowers that die the next day, or the chocolates that pack on the pounds… I’m going… “practical.” :3

1. Forest Faerie Wings Earrings. Someone get me a q-tip, I have whimsy squirting out of my ears. I am a water sign, but faeries are my supernatural totem animal, or whatever. I have dreams of flying all the time, and even of being a faerie! Maybe in a past life… • 2. Moonstone Geometric Necklace. The moonstone is my favorite gemstone. It’s charged full of glamourous goddess energy, and my birthstone to boot! • 3. Urban Mermaid Boatneck Sweatshirt. Cosplay and music superstar Traci Hines has her own line of Disney inspired couture, Adorkable Apparel. And somedays I would love to channel my inner mermaid and rock her adorable seashell bra tops! Traci not only does amazing cosplay work, but she makes hilarious and wonderful videos with several other epic Disney cosplayers! Check out this music video she did called “Disney Chicks.” Anyway, check out Adorkable Apparel for a couple super cute pieces! • 4. Upcycled Lime Green Hippo Planter. this is a great DIY project, but it’s also only $15 in Dana Castle’s Etsy – who by the by has FABULOUS gemstone jewelry too. Such color, much wow. Plus I have a thing for succulents.• 5. Bob’s Burgers Bow. I should not have to explain this bow to anyone! Bob’s Burgers is fantastic, and if you don’t watch it, shame on you.

Who’s That Geek? It’s Patrick Cartelli!

Patrick Cartelli as Finn/Doctor WhoIf you guys remember my first Who’s That Geek: Tony da Costa, on this blog, then you’ll be excited to read about this next one. I met Pat and Tony in exactly the same way, on Twitter! We became fast friends because obviously we’re all amazing. We attended a few “tweet ups” in NYC – which is where Pat and Tony are from. This meant going to places like the Blind Tiger Ale House, or the Beer Garden in Astoria, and drinking amazing craft brews and cracking hilarious jokes. Because obviously, we’re hilarious. Last year, Pat and Tony accompanied Mark and I to New York Comic Con 2012, and it was amazing. As you can see, Pat was the Doctor and Finn all mushed into one!! It was wildly epic.

When Pat isn’t chasing down his art hero Banksy, traveling, or being hilarious on Twitter, he is a graphic designer professionally at W.W.Norton. The point of the story is, follow him! RIGHT NOW!

1) If you could be best friends with 1 cartoon character or group of characters, who would it be?
Probably Jake (Adventure Time) and Gene (Bobs Burgers). Aside from the fact that it’d be cool to have a shape-shifting talking dog buddy, he’s always got good advice and a healthy appetite for EVERYTHING BURRITOS. Gene is a funny kid and he’s always got his keyboard around! I like that he’s so into it that he can’t put it down. That’s the best way to get good at something!

2)  You’re from the beloved city of NYC, and a big Banksy fan. Exactly how much Banksy stalking have you done? If you had to take him out on the town, where would you take him?
I’m super excited that Banksy is here! I don’t remember when I first came across Banksy, but his style fascinates me. Simple and snarky. He’s been doing a month long street ‘residency’ in New York. It feels like a bit of a scavenger hunt. Out of the ones that he’s posted this month I’ve been to 14! It’s taken me to parts of the city I’ve never seen. I love street art and I love having a way to get it out there daily to get other people interested in it.   I don’t know where I’d take him though. A lot of people want him to help save 5pointz which at the moment is due to be torn down. I like not knowing where he’ll pop up. Mystery and surprise add to it all!

3) What was your favorite cartoon or comic from childhood?
Definitely Calvin and Hobbes with all of that adventure and some pretty sincere life lessons. Also for the longest time I thought Hobbes was pronounced “Hobbies.” Cartoons were mostly Looney Tunes and Hannah Barbera. Wasn’t allowed to watch Ren & Stimpy, but I WAS allowed to watch Rocko’s Modern Life which was equally as weird.

4) Apocalypse! You have to re-populate the Earth with 1 fictional girl. Who is it?
Ok seriously, repopulating the earth must have some crazy logistics! Can 2 people even do that? Barring any crazy logistics and after some thought, I’d have to say Kaylee from Firefly. She’s a bad ass engineer and someone I’d want on my side!

5) I have seen your amazing Finn/Doctor Who cosplay, as you wore it when we went to NYCC 2012 together. What is your dream cosplay?
I’m glad you were there with me! That was my first time doing a cosplay and it was a blast. I got such a kick out of talking to everyone about our costumes and the amount of other Doctors I met. (I kept trying to get a Spies like Us “Doctor, Doctor, Doctor” going but alas!) I really don’t know if I have a dream one, just that it’s something I’d love to do again. Maybe I’ll grow my hair out and Game of Thrones it!
