My adventures in Everyday Cosplay and Disneybounding

My love of cosplay runs pretty deep. But the cost and time I would have to spend to cosplay as often as I want too is just too much of a demand – so I figured I’d try something a little more attainable. For 2015, I made a bold resolution. I would Disneybound or Everyday Cosplay as often as possible. So far, the project has been a success! I’ve Stewiebounded a lot! Here are the 5 I’ve done so far.

1. Beast from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast

2. Ursula from Disney’s The Little Mermaid

3. The TARDIS from Doctor Who

4. Dumbo from Disney’s Dumbo

5. Lil from the Rugrats

Stay tuned for part 2, as my 2015 continues to be chocked full of fun costumes, fandoms, nerd inspired outfits, and a general love of all things geeky.

Miss Kitty

I have been meaning to post more outfit posts but just haven’t had the time or energy. And now I finally have forced myself to get something going, so here it is! I wanted a chance to show off my new hair cut as well. The return of the bangs!

I am apparently gothic, as you can see by all the black everywhere. This dress!!! My most favorite of favorites is anything with a Peter Pan collar. It’s retro and whimsical! But the leopard gives it a grown up kind of feel. Oh and how about these tights? Polka dots, YES. Love them on pretty much anything.

And aren’t these shoes amazing? Feminine oxfords, so cute. In short, I love how it’s adorable yet professional. The entire outfit came from ASOS.

If my blog was an outfit, Dude Edish

If I were a boy … I think I could understand … How it feels to love a girl – wait no! Sometimes I wonder if I was a man, how would I dress differently? I doubt I’d wear as many dresses as I tend to wear now, but I bet I’d be a trendy dude. This post was originally inspired by the beautiful Girl Gone Geek when I saw her post on it, and it’s since been traced back to A Geek and Her Oven, The Nerdy Girlie, and even the IGGPPC. And here you have it, the “If my blog was an outfit,” Dude Edish!

Sexy Yellow Bumblebee

Sexy Yellow Bumblebee

I LOVE yellow. Just love it. Like a hot modern day Charlie Brown, it just calls to me. This trendy combo of black and yellow is like a super metrosexual bumble bee of awesome. I would definitely be prancing around the campus an art school wearing this entire outfit.

Something tells me I like man purses. I would definitely be able to find my companion in this awesome Doctor Who inspired outfit. The lighter is probably because I would be a dude who smokes an epic pipe… and check out my awesome pocket watch! Classic!

Colorful Comic Book Geek

I love colors!!! It’s one of my most favorite things! I also love the whole California skater look too! As a guy, I’d have impeccable taste in funky sunglasses, watches, and yes, more man purses. I’d rock lots of colorful comic book tees too!

The “If my blog was an outfit” idea has been great fun to bring to life. Special thanks to Jamila for being the original mama to introduce me to this FUN idea! Be sure to post your “If my blog was an outfit” post here, and let me know so I can see what YOU would rock if your blog was an outfit! More specifically, a dude’s outfit!

Battlestar Galactica Seal Sweatshirt from Her Universe

As I’ve said many times… one of the best perks of being a blogger is being able to do reviews of products I love. Her Universe is a brand I am a huge fan of – for the quality and content! Today I’m modeling a gorgeous Battlestar Galactica Seal crew neck sweatshirt from the leader in geek girl couture, Her Universe.

Wearing the Battlestar Galactica Seal Sweatshirt from Her Universe

The story behind Her Universe is a fairy tale for all girl sci-fi fans. The brand was launched by Ashley Eckstein, voice of Ahsoka Tano from Star Wars: The Clone Wars TV show. If doing the voice for a character in the Star Wars universe isn’t enough to prove her geekiness, Ashley knew that there was a demand for geek girl sci-fi gear too. Girls aren’t the stereotypical fan of sci-fi, and Ashley decided to do something about it. She launched Her Universe to tailor geek garb to women and girls. And I’m very thankful!

I’ve been a huge fan of the revamp of Battlestar Galactica, and have been plowing my way through the 1978 series as well. The universe is delightful, starting with the overall world that contains Twelve Colonies of Kobol. Each colony shares a name with a house of the zodiac (Caprica, Sagittaron, Gemenon, etc.) and each colony has its own unique economic and social structure, but all are connected by the fact that humans survive in all of them, and try to fight or survive the Cylon uprising.

Cylons are pretty awesome, and a take on robots I quite love. They combine the terror of SkyNet – that is, robots who have gone above and beyond humans’ intention, and are growing stronger and smarter than their designers, as well as the charm of Bicentennial Man – in that they believe they are human, have feelings, and some do not know they are Cylons. It’s kind of heart breaking, watching couples in love being torn apart by the discovery that one of them is a Cylon. It begs those basic questions all humans are challenged with. Am I a real person, or am I programmed to have these feelings because I am a Cylon? Do I have free will? Did I ever really love anyone? Where do I go from here? I get chills imagining that horrid reality check of waking up to discover that you’re a Cylon…

I had to rock my Cylon inspired robot necklace, as well as my bright yellow skirt and purse to add a splash of color to this black and white sweatshirt. Perfect for the 50 degree weather we’ve been having in my hometown. I ordered a size Large because I love my sweatshirts big and cozy, but it seems to fit just right. And I know the price tag is Cylon approved at a clearance rate of just $20! I ordered mine on Black Friday, and was gifted a unique Star Wars pin, numbered and signed by Ashley herself. #17 baby! It’s an adorable Darth Vadar wearing a Santa hat, but I am sure I will be rocking it year round.

Vanellope Von Scweetz Cosplay! A very sweet Halloween costume!

Vanellope Von Schweetz Cosplay

This year for Halloween I have donned many faces. My friend Nina and I were Wayne and Garth from Wayne’s World. I was an zombie little girl for the Zombie Pub Crawl. But perhaps the best thing I did this Halloween was with my co-workers, Alan and Jordan. We went as Wreck It Ralph characters!

Wreck It Ralph Cosplay

Wreck It Ralph

And if you haven’t seen it, you’re missing out. It’s a Disney film about, well, the life of arcade game characters! It stars Ralph, an arcade game bad guy who is notoriously disliked for destroying buildings, and his sweet, plucky counterpart, the good guy, Fix It Felix, who cleans up Ralph’s messes. Ralph really hates always being the bad guy, so he decides to leave his game in search of his new destiny as a hero. He ends up befriending a couple of other quirky arcade game characters, including my character Vanellope Von Schweets. Vanellope is a goofy and sugary sweet race car drive from the racing game, Sugar Rush. She’s got the personality mixture of a crazy little kid, and a bit of the sassy voice actress who plays her, Sarah Silverman.

This costume would not have been possible if it weren’t for the 2 amazing Etsy stores who helped me compile this costume. The candy hair clips, a signature style piece of Vanellope’s, came from Bunny’s Craft Hutch. She’s created an assortment of polymer clay sprinkles, candy dots, and peppermints! I just want to eat them all up! It was hard not to… The outfit is a marvel of the amazing Shindig Apparel. Hand sewn with care, the perfect color choices and the perfect fit! This Vanellope costume is a masterful piece, and comfortable to boot! What talent!!

In short, Vanellope Von Schweetz is one of my absolutel favorite cosplays. It’s adorable, comfortable, weather appropriate, and a total fantastic group costume! Thanks again to Terry of Bunny’s Craft Hutch and Tania of Shindig Apparel for some seriously clutch Vanellope costume pieces. Your talent shines like a thousand gumdrops in a sugary sea of syrup! Make sure to check out these talented ladies on Etsy!

Until next time readers, I hope your Halloween is full of fantastic costumes, lots of sugary sweets, and fun times with friends and fiends. <3
